A chronic disease of the respiratory system, asthma occurs when bronchial tubes, the main air passages of the lungs, become inflamed. The muscles of the bronchial walls constrict in response to one or more triggers, and cells in the lungs react by producing extra mucus that further narrow the airways. This can cause minor wheezing to severe difficulty in breathing. This presentation deals with the causes, symptoms, screening and diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
